I am surprised they didnt route the tram to go through all thewe gorgeous places. Tourists only get to see a bit of Sighthill and the affluent Broomhouse area when they arrive.
The auld launderette doon auld niddrie brings back memories that , I used to live doon the fort in leith years ago then moved up ti granton ,Some mad times up pilton /granton .... YPD
Born in Muirhouse in 1998 moved to Fife 5 years later thank fuck. No much better across the forth like
My family moved into Craigentinny in 1950 it was thought to be one of the better council estates in those days We moved out in 1962 and moved to Lochend Happy Days.😂
I lived in BROOMHOUSE Broomhouse crescent, 30 odd years ago, right at the top in a bungalow just before the underpass that took you to the shops at Sighthill, i drove down Broomhouse Crescent last time i was in Edinburgh, not been there in over 20 years, and the playing field for the old primary school is a housing Estate 😮 How things change 😢
Fantastic video and perfect soundtrack for it. Wow it was put in 13 years ago scary how time flies
Used to be a postie and delivered to most of those places. Love Edinburgh.
Spotted my old house in the vid, reminded me of what a shit hole it really was. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.
What’s good Ian .I but it’s nostalgic in it ynt,lol
Once you get past the nostalgia, you soon realise there’s another world out there. Those places were crime ridden, rat infested shit holes! Built to keep us down.
Mental Drylaw gang in the 1970s. Are they still going?
Funny, I grew up in Embra, in several of these neighbourhoods. I don't miss it, but I like to see this coz it reminds me how I've progressed in life. I could still be stuck in a crappy wee flat in Moredun. No offence to anyone who is....
Look up nostalgia and what it realy means ,peace
Looks like dundee in the 90s actually identical!!! Scottish council estates are crazy as f,ck but great to grow up in 🏴👊💯
Muirhouse, Muirhouse, Muirhouse, LEITH
The class divide in Edinburgh is by far the worse I have ever seen. It is disgusting that in 2023, your actual postcode determines your overall quality of life and life expectancy.
What a load of CRAP!
Where's the building at 3.01?
Yep just like all other towns and cities.
Born and raised in Bingham, great times and good memories with old friends ❤️
where are the slums? the niddrie images showed house's ready for demolition you can't call some place a slum if nobody lives there. the high rise homes looked ok
The old high rises were not okay mate
Just keep searching ,you’ll find them ,I’ve watched the h ridden niddrie on yt ,
You're about as safe in Niddrie as you are in the Gaza Strip.
3:27 weird seeing my flat when the bridge was still there pre Union canal
never seen any of the calders !
True
Looks like niddrie at 1.30 mins born & bred in the YNT
This was Edinburgh in the good old days, miss it so much . Becky L you are spot on , I couldn’t have put it better masell , you hit the nail on the heed hen . 👍🏻
looks apocalyptic to me yet comments are overwhelmingly positive. must be a tough bunch you scots
Great wee vid. Brings back many memories, especially the last few shots of the high flats in Wester hailed & sighthill. Growing up in Dumbryden, one of the seven estates that make up Westerhailes was great. Tough areas, a lot of poverty but as a kid it was brilliant. There were so many kids, you were never short of someone to play footie with in the carpark.
7 estates that make up Wester hailes? Av never heard that in ma puff, what are yi classin them as mate? Dumbryden, Murrayburn, Walkers, Westburn, Barnpark, Calder n Clovie??
Ah, I miss Hailesland. No fkn idea why.
I love it here just no respect for us older team

Miss Edinburgh so much, Pilton and then sighthill...my younger years, so so many amazig happy memories. ✌️🤗
Sunshine on leith dark clouds over niddrie
Excellent
They’re slowly demolishing all these old buildings. Anyone who was living in Edinburgh before 2013 knows it was a different world
It sure was lad
In Glasgow you grow up thinking Edinburgh is full of tories, english people and tourists, weird seeing this side to the capital
@Some Guy still is
@Some Guy exactly mate the people thinking that it’s full of posh twats have never stepped foot in saughton pilton niddrie oxgangs moredun wester hailes and etc

@@ivanarchivaldoguzman8783great comment m8. Can you tell me some more places like this in Edinburgh please thank you , only know of west side plaza muirhouse broomhouse
Love it when you get comments from weegies trying to slag edinburgh. Bunch o Fuds
I watch this and although it may not be attractive to other viewers, it makes me happy because it reminds me of a time growing up where Edinburgh was simply Edinburgh...it was home. Now, most of these buildings are gone, and so are the people that lived in them. Pushed further out the city whilst the land their former homes stood on continues to be bought by filthy rich property development companies - in cahoots with the local council etc - who build "luxury apartments" that more than likely lie empty half the year when they're not let out through air b&b for 1k a week, or development after development of "student accommodation" with a Sainsbury's local and a Costa coffee occupying the ground floor units. Horrific
But why would tourists want to see deprivation, neds and junkies lurking about. Those are people who ruin a cities reputation they are also the people that can fuck right off.
Dumbiedykes loyal
Loads off the buildings are still there mate 👍
What are you talking about..."being pushed further out of the city" ? All these places are nowhere near the city centre.
Anyone who doesn’t miss this side of Edinburgh is heartless and anyone who wants it back is brainless
A lot of great comments on this video and this is one of the best
One of the most beautiful comments I have read is: Are you a poet? ❤❤❤
Most people think of Edinburgh as the Castle and Princess Street. Sadly, our capital city has deep pockets of deprivation and poverty. The media refuses to highlight it and instead focus on Glasgow’s issues. It’s sad. We need to look after all our poor citizens in Scotland 🏴
Glasgow has always been worse but Edinburgh still had some issues
We should ring fence our local taxes and use them here in Edinburgh rather than prop up Glasgow.
But doesn't tourism help raise the profile of Edinburgh and the country? 😢
Aren't Glasgow and Edinburgh two cities@@claredouglas6067
Aren't Glasgow and Edinburgh two cities in Scotland?
My childhood right there, each and every scheme from lochend to wester hailes were my stomping grounds and took many a chase through the mazes in muirhouse and pilton from drylaws finest..
How romantic.
Horrible buildings, I’m glad they were demolished or remodelled.
You do realise that most of them are parts of history and you cant "Just get rid" Of history
L33BZY HFC cool
@@l33bzyhfc71 Well they can and they did. 😂 No point in keeping hideous buildings in a beautiful city is there?
What you mean By "Other side" Are you trying to call people that live in these places Junkies people who might not have it as good as you You cockhead
Codona sid
Jesus! All these Edinburgh locals making out they came from a bear pit in hell. It’s Edinburgh! It’s full of tourists and English people! Not exactly the Gaza Strip.
Is it fuck you’ve only been to the main parts mate
